괌 ESTA·ETA 차이, 1인 5만4천원 아끼는 기준

괌과 사이판은 미국령이라 한국 여권으로 가려면 허가가 필요합니다. 괌·사이판에만 쓰는 G-CNMI ETA(괌·북마리아나제도 전자여행허가, 이하 ETA), 또는 미국 어디서나 쓰는 ESTA가 있어야 합니다. 미국 비자가 있어도 됩니다. 두 허가 모두 미국 세관국경보호국(CBP)이 내줍니다.

주하갓냐 대한민국 출장소는 2024년 11월 30일(한국 시간)부터 종이 입국카드 대신 ETA 사전 승인이 의무가 됐다고 공지했습니다. 같은 공지에서 비용은 무료이고, 유효한 ESTA나 미국 관광·상용 비자(B1/B2)를 가진 사람은 ETA를 신청할 필요가 없다고 안내합니다.

외교부 해외안전여행도 같은 내용을 안내하며, 셋 중 하나가 없으면 탑승이 거절된다고 적고 있습니다.

ESTA는 승인일부터 2년 동안, 여권이 그보다 먼저 만료되면 그날까지 유효합니다. 그 기간에는 여러 번 써도 됩니다. 아직 유효하면 괌에 갈 때 ETA를 따로 받지 않아도 됩니다.

예를 들어 2025년 3월 10일에 미국 여행용 ESTA를 승인받았다면 2년 뒤인 2027년 3월까지 유효합니다. 2026년 12월 괌 여행에는 그대로 쓸 수 있습니다. 승인 화면에 정확한 만료일이 나오니 그 날짜를 확인하십시오.

여권을 새로 받았다면 기존 ESTA는 쓸 수 없습니다. CBP는 ESTA와 ETA 모두 새 여권을 받거나 이름·국적이 바뀌면 새로 신청해야 한다고 안내합니다. 이때 괌만 간다면 무료인 ETA를 새로 받는 편이 낫습니다.

사람 수만큼 필요합니다. CBP는 아이도 나이와 상관없이 각자 ETA 승인을 받아야 하고, 좌석 없이 부모 무릎에 앉아 가는 아기도 예외가 아니라고 안내합니다. 부모 여권에 함께 올라간 아이는 안 되고, 아이 본인 여권이 있어야 신청할 수 있습니다.

ETA는 한 번에 한 사람씩만 신청할 수 있습니다. 4인 가족이면 같은 화면을 네 번 거칩니다. CBP가 밝힌 평균 작성 시간이 한 사람에 23분이니, 4인 가족이면 1시간 반쯤 잡으십시오. 부모가 아이 것을 대신 써도 되며, 이때는 보호자로서 질문에 사실대로 답해야 합니다.

4명 모두 ESTA를 받으면 161.08달러, 약 21만7천원입니다. 2년 안에 미국 본토나 하와이에 갈 계획이 없다면 이 돈을 쓸 필요가 없습니다.

CBP는 항공권을 예약할 때 바로 ETA를 신청하라고 권하고, 늦어도 출발 5일 전에는 내라고 합니다. CBP에 따르면 결과는 보통 5일 안에 나오고, 바로 결정되지 않으면 심사 중(Pending)으로 표시됩니다. 일정이 확정되지 않아도 신청할 수 있습니다. 다만 괌·사이판에서 연락받을 곳(보통 묵을 호텔)을 적어야 하고, 주소를 모르면 호텔 이름만 적어도 됩니다.

결과는 ETA 사이트에 들어가 직접 확인해야 합니다. 출발 전에 가족 모두 승인(Approved)인지 꼭 보십시오. 심사 중으로 남아 있으면 일정을 다시 살피십시오.

승인서를 인쇄해 보여 줄 필요는 없습니다. 항공사와 괌·사이판 입국심사관이 승인 여부를 전산으로 확인합니다. 다만 CBP는 신청번호를 기록해 두는 용도로 인쇄해 두기를 권합니다.

괌은 이와 별도로 세관 신고서를 받습니다. 괌 세관검역청(CQA)은 괌에 도착하는 모든 사람에게 전자 세관 신고서를 요구하며, 도착 72시간 전부터 작성할 수 있다고 안내합니다. ETA와는 다른 서류입니다.
